Alright, so I have had my sd arms (s10 of course) for about a 5 months now and decided to go a different route with my truck. They are going out for powder coating again to change the colour. My problem is how the hell to get the lower ball joint out.

I know they have to be pressed, I have been to 2 shops already and they both said that it wont be possible to press them out without breaking them. So are these guys full of shit and just lazy or am I gonna be looking at 2 new lower balljoints when this is over with? I never got to run the lowers last year due to some problems with the truck so the ball joints have 0 hours on them, would be a bit of a piss of to have to smash them out

Anyone?

They will most likely get destroyed when they press them out, youll need to get a new set man.

balljoints are like tooth brushes.you should change them anyways. It's not like they cost a whole lot. However I would leave them in.pressure the grease out with carb cleaner and a air hose then tape them off when they spray the powder.that way your powder won't get messed up by some redneck with no respect for your arms trying to push them back in sideways.Of course no matter how there pressed in they will get scratched.Leave them.

sand and paint the powder coat. powder coat is a great foundation for paint. all the big name street rod shops are powder coating whole bodies before the do the mud work. look at the f bomb in hotrod mag. rad rides is doing it to now.

powdercoating whole bodies eh... I was under the impression the heat would damage large surfaces such as exterior body panels. Any write-ups or links on this practice?

Alright thanks for all your help guys. And Grip you said to tape them off after pushing all the grease off. When they cook the powder cause wouldn't that be hot enough to melt or deform the rubber boot for the ball joint? Sorry if this sounds stupid, this is my first full build and I have never delt with getting anything powder coated before.....lol And the guys at the powder coat place are impossible to get on the phone

Yes, you wont be able to leave them in there, they will get destroyed and/or they will boil shit out of them and that will destroy the powdercoat around them.

Yeah thats what I was thinking aswell, but was not sure how much heat they used to cook the powder coat. Is there at all a possible way to get the balljoint back in without scratching them after the new powder coat is applyed? Any tricks of the trade that might help me without me screwing up the new coating threw trail and error
