welding problem!!!!

my welder acts as if it doesnt have enough voltage or amperage to lay any kind of decent bead on steal plate when i use it at home so i took it to my welding teacher to troubleshoot the problem...well we plugged it in set it to a round about startign point for 1/4" steal plate and it welded beautifully so i brought it home tonight and im havin the same problem...is there a chance my wall socket doesnt have enough amperage in it? its a brand new miller digital 252. any info would help.

wire gauge in your house might not be the right size which will also cause voltage drop from the breaker to the outlet. Was this outlet put in specifically for a welder? because that would be the best thing to do so you don't trip a breaker or worse burn the insulation off the wires in your house and cause a fire

are u runnin a extension cord that would make it pulse like a bitch...i try to avoid runnin one in my shop

its was originally for my dryer but the plug was swapped for one that my welder fit inand no im not usin an extension cord

sounds like the plug might need to be rewired or might have a loose wire in it

most dryers use a 30amp socket and most welder plugs are 50 but ive done the same thing you are speaking of and have had no problem, as long as your wire awg is big enough 12 or 14 should be enough depends on the distance from your box

As a lot have said, sounds like the wire for the plug. Might have to run a new line from the box.

If you go that route buy the orange wire.

sounds to me like its wire wrong. remember black and red are the hot leads the white is the neutral or ground
