i painted my fenders about a week ago and i had a big problem today. i went to put my emblems on and i was using tape as a guide i first tested the tape on the lower part of the fender and exactly what i thought but didn't want, happened. it peeled the paint off. WHY? i sanded with 180 grit and cleaned the surface with degreaser. the paint says to use 2:3 with the approved thinner so i mixed 2 parts paint to 3 parts thinner. now the paint was coming out of the gun pretty shitty but looked badass when it dried. and it isn't coming off everywhere just on certain areas. any ideas?

oh and this is just a cheap hotrod black primer that i bought at oreilly auto parts. don't know if that is my problem but it could be.

Damn that sucks bro,....to be honest it sounds like a bad prep/cheap product problem......I dunno??

When you used the degreaser did you be sure to "wax on wax off"?.......it's important to wipe it off before it dries on it's own....

What did you paint over ...raw metal or old paint?.....if you painted over raw metal you need to use an etching primer if you want your paint to stick to it....

Also 180 is a little rough for paint paint prep.....2 or 3k filler primer OK,... (but for paint prep your going to see all of your scratches through your paint color)

got any pics?

What did you mean by...

"now the paint was coming out of the gun pretty shitty but looked badass when it dried"....
Was it always spraying like that?

What's it doing exactly??

well, i know the product is cheap but it should still stick you know. it must be bad prep. i really think i need to go buy some new degreaser. it didn't all peel off, only in small places. and i am not preping for paint, i am going to be rollin this hotrod black primer for a little while (hopefully, unless it all peels off) haha. and sith it spraying like shit: it was just kind of spattering out instead of actually spraying. i couldn't get it adjusted right for some reason. i am not a painter by any means so i don't know how to really describe it. but after it dried it looked exactly how i wanted it to. also, i don't know how to post pics but if you go to this link it will come up...

and it is doing it only on the edges. it won't do it anywhere else.

Everything Lost Cause said could have been the problem with the peeling. As for the paint it could have been under reduced or the air pressure was to low.

sounds like you sanded the flats good but didnt scuff the edges. did you paint over any parts that were still shinny? like the edges not havent been prepped...

no, i hand sanded all the edges and made sure there were no shiny spots other than the bare metal of course but it was still scuffed.

a buddy of mine said to sand it down with 80 grit and the 180 grit and then prime it with this stuff. he said that sometimes on the cheap shit that is what you have to do. any ideas on that though?

i personally think that i just failed on wiping it down good enough and really need to go buy a better cleaner.

^^^^^Exactly what they both just said is very true...I was also going to suggest thinning your paint a little more if it wont spray well ,...aslo more air pressure might help....

Good luck, let me know if I can help....
