I have a guy (16yrs old)who wants to buy a car from me. My question is he says that the car will have to be inspected which is fine but i don't know how tough of a inspection it is and if he will have any problems.... the car is all shaved so the gas cap is in the trunk and it now has a 4 point harness for seat belts do they care about stuff like this or will it be emissions only and if it is will there be a problem with it having a hi-flo cat and a flomaster on it? thanks for any info.

where in canada is he from , here in BC your suppose to have exterior door handles. the gas cap in the trunk is a no no too , unless its sealed off from the interior and vented outside the car . nothing a $100 bill left in the ash tray shouldnt fix

he's got that hit on the nail for our part of the world. Depending on the province, it shouldnt be an issue, however for the most part, he'll need to slip the mechanic a c-note.

I live in Michigan and he said hes about 2 hours away from Detroit. So he just takes it to a shop to have inspected? any he wants?

Honestly dude all that stuff should be his concern not yours.

It will have to go through an import inspection where they will check anything that migth be different between US and Canada standards including lighting and probably the seatbelt thing.

From there, its a provincial thing. Depending where he lives, he will have to have it inspected to meet the safety standards of that province before he can insure it.

He will also have to have all the proper paperwork handled 72 hours before he actually imports the vehicle as well.

i agree, thats his problem.

but here in Sask, the filler can be in the passenger compartment only if its fuel injected. and only the outside handles can be shaved.
