I need some ideas and pics of what kind of shop to build. I'm kind of leaning toward an Olympia Steel builing, but for the price also considering a pole barn style. Any pics or info on both would be greatly appreciated.

I am putting up a 60x40 red iron open span building now. I did not like the Olympia style b/c all sq.ft. is not really useful. Also, I dont know how it is where you live, But my county required me to have an engineer draw my foundation...WOW...$1000 for the engineer, $8500 for 85 yds of concrete ( 6" slab with 36"x18" monolithic & 3'x5' footings for all 8 support beams) plus about $600 in 3/4" rebar. basically the foundation cost me double what i planned. It would cost me less to build 2 smaller buildings...anyway my pockets are dry now and it and mine comlpete yet.

I'm about 30 min east of knoxville, Tn. 40'X60' is the size I'm looking at also. If I go with the pole barn style, I could frame it up and just need 4" of concrete and no foundation if I'm correct. Has anyone built one of these?

The enineers that i dealt with were explaining how it needs x amount of concrete for wind resistance and I had to build these rebar cages and matts in each footing. Like my building will never fly away wizard of oz style..of course my arguement is all of the sheet metal will be long gone. Anyway, you might want to think a little thicker then 4" just to handle more PSI for jack stands and stuff. I know most driveways are 4" and never have a problem but still. Well...hope your inspectors are easier to deal with than mine were.
