I am thinking out loud here... Now when you buy a tailgate skin combo and say you remove the tailgate and bumper/roll pan. Then is there a way to fabricate hinges on the tailgate skin combo and have it swing open?

Now with a tailgate skin combo it is just a one side piece of sheet metal right?

So could you get another piece of sheet metal and attach it to the back and side of the tailgate skin combo so it would be a 4 sided object with hinges and a latch mechanism with maybe a handle of some sort on the inside of the bed?

Or would it be better to utilize my existing tailgate and redo the hinges on it so it swings open then attach the skin to the tailgate...."I think that might be easier"

Let me know any help is help. Right?

If you did that with just the skin, you would have to build a frame within the skins to it would be strong enough. Never seen that done though. I'd probably do something with the stock tailgate like that.

just rehinge the stock gate, building one out of a skin would be too much work for the same result.

just get a tailgate skin and rollpan seperate

Phil, the thing is I don't like any of the roll pans that they make for my truck, because the license plate hangs down below the bottom edge of the roll pan on every one that I can find for my truck. So to let me be able to use my tailgate and to have my license plate where I want,

I thought if I had a combo skin that was hinged to still enable use of my bed and had the plate where I wanted, then I am good.

I just am trying to figure out what exactly I would need to do to a combo skin to make my vision a reality.

Any help is help....right?
