I want to paint the ranger a dark grey metallic and I was wondering if I can still use a pearl in my clear to give it some depth and was wondering if I did so would it completely take away from the metallic that is in the basecoat

dark grey metalic color, and what color pearl over it? if you use a white, your dark grey will be brighter in the light, if you use gold, it will be goldish in the light, violet pearl, you guessed it, violety in the light.

the metallic in the base will most likely hide any pearl you use. if your clear is sprayed on properly, and you wet sand and buff the clear, it will have plenty of "depth". a "deep wet looking" paint job comes from the color sand and buff, and then a good wax job.

heres a real easy thing to do, get a cheap door, or fender, and paint it the color you want, then add your pearl. clear it, sand and buff it, and look at it in the sun to see if it has the look you are looking for

if you want depth use a good high soild clear and apply at least 3 coats and wet sand and buff a pearl over a high metalic is going to muddy up the depth.

For alot of depth like Brent said use a high solids clear spray on 3 coats then sand with 800 and apply 3 more coats of clear then cut/buff as normal

only in my opinion i dont think u really need to re-clear all u need is 3 coats when u shoot ur first coat make sure its pretty wet but u also have to give it bout 10-12 mins..between coats so u prevent solvent pop and runs

I mix paint every day for shops in my area, what i would suggest is pick your color and add pearl to it. many colors have both metallic's and pearls, not a problem, you'll get the metallic effect, and you will see a color shift from the pearl on the flop, if you want a stonger sparklier pearl. go with a xirrilic, a much nicer pearl. Many pearls have a white cast to them, i try to avoid them when possible, to get away from the milky look.. If you have any questions email me.. I see your in sk,, if your michigan chapter, stop by, i'm sure i could find something you would like..
