i need to "adjust" my lower link bars in to make them as short as possible. can i take the stop nut off, screw the bar end all the way in and weld it on? cause that nut is like an 1" thick and i need all the room i can get.

also, if i do this will there ever be a need to change the bushings out or will they last a long time? cause i wont be able to replace the threaded bar ends if i weld them on.

Don't do that. Get a smaller jam nut, you can get them about 3/8" tall to 1/2" tall. That or shorten that end and tap it farther.

glad i asked first...i just don't know where im gonna find a smaller jam nut for a 1 1/8" stud. thats huge.

Oh.. I didn't realize it was that large. Is it a Suicide doors link? If so, maybe cut ti and bring it to a machine shop to have the threads extended, or fork over $50 for a 1 1/8" tap and go for it yourself.

I would notch the end and weld on a non adjustable bushing before I would weld the threads.

If it an 1 1/8 thread I am going to assume that theres a bung in the end of the square tubing. Why not just cut behind the weld, remove the bung, shorten it the amount that you need, and weld the bung back in? Figure out how much you need to shorten it and leave some thread sticking out so you still have some adjustabilty.

I'd say what chris said would be your cheapest and best option, if not just replace your rod ends with some non-adjustables... fairly cheap and an easy fix

I didn't realize it was square. If thats the case you could do what Chris said, and even if you mess up, you can get new weld in bungs.

if you really want to weld it, go for it, you wont do anything but make it non adjustable, and look alittle ghetto....
