4 Link Bar Lengths

Im building a triangulated four link with bags on the lower bars. The lower bars are straight and 36" and my uppers are triangulated and 24". I was wondering how much the difference in length matters and if it would be better to make them all the same length.

Equal length bars will not have as much pinion change if any. Shorter upper bars the axle will move forward in travel and the pinion will change some. If you can, going equal length is best. This is just from what I have heard Max might know better.

Different bar lengths aren't nearly as important as so many think. There are many systems that work quite well with an upper bar that is nearly half the length of the lower bar. Much like the saying that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, a suspension system will only have as much travel as its most limiting piece. In other words, the short upper bar will limit the useable travel proportionately to the length of the bar.

With that being said, the Nash in my profile has 8" of useable travel and has a 12" long upper bar. The important thing is spending more time figuring everything out. A short bar will cause more geometry change than a long bar, so keeping everyting within check is more important.

What about figuring bar lengths for a parallel 4-link? Should both bars be the same or should the lower bar be longer? What's the dealy yo?

Thanks max, when you say "keeping everything in check" what all are you refering to besides the pinion?

Trace- I hate to sound rude, but did you read my post? You choose a bar length based on your confines and performance needs. Since most of you don't have any performance needs, just use your confines. As I stated before, they can be the same length or different. The 4-link doesn't care.

Chris- Short bars create a lot more roll-steer and anti-squat. Just be extra sure that the bars are near parallel to the ground at half travel and don't try to squeeze more travel than necessary out of it.
