ok i was spraying a tailgate with a single stage urathane paint. on one pass, my hand hit the fitting on the bottom of the gun knocking it off, and moving the gun forward which made me hit the trigger with no air. which splattered paint on the tailgate. then that started to run and started an avalache all the way down the tailgate.... i was pissed... i need help....

tomorrow after it dries can i just wetsand with 400 to get the drips off and then re-coat?

any advice? thanks,

We use a razor and it works on drips in the paint not sure about sanding with that stuff im not the painter cuz some paints u have to sand the whole thing so it looks even but its only the tailgate its not a huge problem like if it were kandy and on the side of the vehicle u got a big problem.

How bad is it?...you might be able to just let it dry a couple days and block it out if then buff it. If it dripped off the tailgate you can cut some off after it had dried enough. Then block it out. Or you could do like you asked and wet sand it with 400 and respray.

If its a solid color, theres a trick to taking out runs when your spraying a single stage. I cant really explain it with clarity though, maybe someone else can. Basically, you use 3M tape to pull off some of the build up after it gets tacky. Then you respray to build it back up. And level it off when you block it out for buffing. Its not hard but it can cause more problems if your not careful.

I have used the tape trick before, on two stage, works well. I would let it dry and take a razor and shave them down till it's pretty smooth. Be careful that when you take the tops layer off it's not tacks underneath. It will ball up on you if you keep scrapping on it
