For any of you out there that have an associates degree, just wondered what is was in? then I guess what you do and if it was helpful in your career?

I need to do something, and at my age (30) don't want to commit to a 4 year degree. I was thinking about getting an associates degree that might transfer into a 4 year degree if I chose to do so.

Any help or ideas would be great. thanks, Charlie

I had an associate in CIS, now a bachelors in Computer Science. Still have the same job though didnt even need the BA.

With an AA you get out of it what you put into it. You can pretty much get one for spelling your name right but if you cant apply what you learned you are screwed. I say go for it. It also depends on what you get it in and from where

do something in health care. with my personal experience it pays off the best with an associates degree.

i got a associates degree in design and that never panned out for me. i also will mention it was from ITT(school is a joke)and i live in Michigan(which jobs suck here). every job i interviewed for wanted to pay me 7-9 an hr to start(fuck that). so i decided to go back to school for something in health care. i got my associates degree in polysomnography(testing for sleep disorders). the first job i interviewed for started me out at 15 an hour and when i get my national registry ill be right in the range of 20 an hour.

right on.....figured I'd get some different responses. I've looked at auto cad/drafting, Cnc/machinist, and graphic design. I've gotten some other ideas to look into now. I wish I'd done it a little earlier, but it's to late to think about it like that. I just wasn't sure how useful it was. I've been looking at Ivy tech, and according to the info I have , most everything there transfers to a 4 year school ( not getting caught like that, have a couple of friends that got caught with credits that don't transfer from ITT, Etc. and are screwed and in debt now. ) anyone else want to chime in. the sleep disorder thing is interesting, might look into that. How hard was the schooling? alot of anatomy classes and stuff? Charlie

2 english classes2 algebra 2 anatomy1 chemistryand your BS classesafter that it was all classes that applied to my field(thats how it was for me)

as far as it being hard, every bodies opinion will be different. i didnt think it was hard because it was interesting.

things to check into........

what the pay scale is in your area, it varies state to state.

if there is a program in your area make sure it is accredited. if not it will be a pain in the ass to get your national registry(which is important).

another thing is, some states require you to be licensed through them. this isnt a big deal but it is just one more thing to throw into the pot.

also search BRPT and that will give you a lot of info on what you need to know.

anymore questions just ask
