remove shifter from housing

how do you take shifter out of housing?

Mine had a retainer on top that held the ball in place. Was held in by 3 bolts.

yeah the housing had four bolts in trans. but how do you get the shifter out of that housing.

you have to pull the rubber boot off the top and there is a snap ring that hols the shifter in the housing

what i did was take the knob off. unscrews. then pull the boot(s). and from either the top, or usually the bottom of the truck, there is 4-6 bolts (depending on year) to remove on a plate surrounding the arm. then it all comes out upwards. to remove it from the housing i think you have to remove a clip or something on the inside. that much i dont know. i modified mine with it still on there i think. i cant remember. are you powdering it? chrome? something like that?
