A little while ago there was a thread on building a complete irs from scratch with inboard brakes and piecing this together from different stock components. Now i cannot find it but i am sure i read it thru and it did not touch on how to build something similar to the setup Aaron Iha fabbed on the silverado in the new mags out on shelf. It says he used a stock 14 bolt rearend and cut down and fabbed up in board breaks. I am curious how it is done. Are the brakes mounted to an overly shortened axle, also how is the shaft going to mount using knuckles in the end. Just something i am curious about and wondering if you can shed any light or pictures on this procedure. Or even possibly expand more on how to do it from gathered components as you were speaking about before.

This question can be made into a 5 part tech article...

I start with a center section capable if the horsepower that I plan on having. then I build or find knuckes that I feel will be appropriate for the project. If I run in-board brakes, I machine up adapters that get sandwiched between the CV and the inner drive-flange. The axles are not ever a concern. The guys at RCVperformance.com are capable of making axles to fix any inner and outer CV combo that you choose for a more than fair price.

On the Chevelle in my profile, I used an obcenely short 9" Ford rearend, but sense then I have found a better, narrower housing.

Thnx for the reply Max. One more thing though can you post pics of adaptors you woulld machine to mount to inner drive flange and cv as well as a set of knuckles you have made. Thanks again for the info.
