ive noticed that the rear lower links on 2nd gen 4runners are pretty beefy and decent length. tubular design. also noticed that mazda mpv minivans have the same thing going on. others too im sure.

now, in the back of my 92 yota i have 3" blocks and want to go lower, but i drive it kinda hard sometimes and hate axle hop. so i got to thinking i could use some used premade OEM link bars and make a 4 link with custom brackets/tabs. as for a spring, i could do spring over axle, but it would be very short. like 4-6" tall. is that too short to be effective? another idea i had would be to use a set of honda or similar coilover replacement setups. they are used on craigslist for cheap. again, just make brackets. i know the 3 stud top would be a weird mount style but i could make a bracket that has a bolt through it to make it like an eye-eye street rod style.

im trying to do this for fairly minimal cost involved. any input on this? thanks people.

and no, i dont want to wait and bag it later. this truck isnt going bags. its my daily.

does it sound like a good plan, or anybody have any input?

just weld in the whole rear 4 link and springs out of a runner. cut the springs to go lower if they aren't low enough. though the same thing a while back on my std cab for traction reasons but never did it. post pics if ya do. good luck.

if your going to go through all that trouble, why not get a 200 dollar 4 link from grant fab and run some coilovers from a honda like you said. you could set the coil overs up right where you want ride height...and have a good looking 4link.

Way to be resourceful, good luck and post pics if you do it please.

ill get pics of the link bars today. they look like any kit that just has bushing ends. im gonna go get a few bars and parts today.

okay. this sucked to have to remove this shit with a pair of wrenches and a breaker bar but i got it all out.

what i ended up getting was the lower rear bars from a 90-95 4x4 V6 4runner. they are a good length, just a hair shorter than the distance of the axle to the stock leaf hanger up front. they will be cut up and modified into the upper wishbone link to get around the gas tank.

and i also got some toyota privia lower rear bars. its a rear wheel drive minivan, with a normal toyota 7.5" or 8" axle. rear discs. 4 link with panhard. nice thing is, those bars are just a bit longer than the 4runner lowers, and they are quite a bit thicker too. that setup uses the coil on the very back of the lower bar, not the axle tube itself like the 4runner. so i of course grabbed the coils too, with rubber isolators. 46 for the privia stuff and like 23 for the 4runner bars. by the time i get tabs made, and a bit of stock for a wishbone crossmember, ill be into this less than 100 bucks. if the coil is too tall, ill cut it down. if it ends up being too soft, ill get some stiffer junkyard coils. front of a fullsize or van and cut them down.

ill put up a pic of what i got in a little bit.

oh, and the privia rear discs look like they could fit onto a truck axle if you modified a few things. that 4 bolt flange at the end of the tube has them in a different layout. i havent torn one apart to know what those are for. but its an option. could make an adapter if you dont mind bumping stuff out a bit. could compensate by doing it on an older axle since the older they get, the narrower they are.
