Okay I have a 1998 Z3 BMW parts car and it is a 4 cylinder. I am wanting to take the independent rear and put it in my 51 F100 that has a 429 ford motor with just a few upgrades. Does anyone think that the rearend out of the 4 cylinder bmw will be able to hold up to a ford big block?

No one has an opinion?

if you drive it reasonably it probably would. i mean how extensive are your upgrades? if your using an automatic trans it would be a little softer on your diff also.

The Z3 rearend is basicly a E30 piece(think 80s yuppie-mobile) with 5 stud hubs instead of fours. They are very stout. 4 cylinders almost always have an open diff, but limited slips can be found in both "sport package" 6 cylinders and M coupes. Finding a diff shouldnt be that hard as BMW sold millions of E30s throughout the eighties, and with the proper shimming will bolt right into your housing. As far as handling the power from that Ford big block, I have no idea. However, I did have a E30 with a supercharged 4-liter BMW V-8 that was pumping about 425 foot pounds to a basicly stock rear end with no probs....until we added slicks at the track. The traction caused one axle to shear right off of the stub. There are companies that sell upgraded parts, but the cost is very prohibitve.
