I need to narrow my rear end about 2 inches on each side. I was first told that it is narrowed from the out side of the tubes. So I already have all my mounts and all that fun stuff already installed. I wa told today that you narrow it by cutting it out of the pumpkin and then rewelding it back. So i am thinking of cutting 2 inches out of each side of the tubes in the middle between the pumpkin and the outside. Anyone ever done this? Or does someone know of a bearing that is made to go on the shaft in place of the one near the outside of the tube so I can just cut off the end of the tube. By the way it is on my tahoe and it is a 10 blot rear end.

im not sure if there is a difference on techniques that require you to pull your tube out for some reason.. but in did mine without doingn that on my ranger... of course i jigged it up to keep the tube straight after i cut what i wanted off but i just cut the ends off then cut how much i wanted off each side then beveled the edges of the end i cut off and the remaining tube then i welded it back together. measure check and double check before making your final full welds but thats how i did mine and it was very successful. then i got new axles from mossier. the end

i have narrowed many rears on the trucks built in my shop and ALWAYS cut it on the end of the tubes

from the ends, and take it to someone who narrows rears with the proper alignment bars and flange pucks or you will probably regret it
