max, ive read in a lot of your posts how minitruckers like to over build stuff, which isnt a bad thing, right? i was just curious what recommendations you have on tubing diameter, thickness, etc? for back halfs, sfbd, full frames, etc. i've already stock floored my fullsize ex cab with 2x4 .250, was just curious what your opinions were.

That's like asking how long a piece of string is. Every application warrants a different tubing size. The 2x4x.250 is fine. It's just that there are so many rear suspensions that I've seen built that are as burly as I would use on a full-size off-road truck. A road car rarely needs anything thicker than 1/8" (.120) or a tubing o.d. of more than 1 1/2".

i completely agree with everything you said. having built several tube chassis drag cars, i am constantly amazed at the over kill that is sometimes used on minis.granted there are different forces applied to road vehicles versus vehicles built for a single purpose. basicaly it was just a question of opinion, thought maybe it could help others that have the same? can never have too much info, you know? so, anyway.......how long is a piece of string?

I agree with all of the above^^^ I am currently building a long travel mini sand rail with 20" of wheel travel, and a Suzuki Hayabusa motor, and the tubing I am using is 1.5" DOM .o95 wall. EVERYTHING is triangulated, you just have to think about the forces that are being applied at any given area.....

Even that is overkill. A small car like that can get away with 1 3/8x.095 main tubes and .065 bracing, as long t it is all set up correctly.
