We were on the way to TexMex last week and we had driven nonstop for about 1.5 hours and I look down and notice speedometer says 80 when I know I might be doing 60. So i start slowing down til it says 70. Meanwhile old ladies are passing me by so I'm going WTF. I pull over and come to complete stop and it says I'm going 30 MPH. The next morning when we drive it, it reads normal but i was wondering if this has happened to anyone and what might have caused it

Replace the cable if its mechanical. if its controled by the computer take it in and have it calibrated.

A buddy of mines old truck would do that when he's driving for a long time with his lights on. The heat from the dash lights would warp the face cover and made the needle stick. Sounds odd, but it only did it with the lights on. Thats what we came up with. When it cooled down it was fine.
