My truck is driving me nuts. It smokes like crazy when I start it up. Sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't smoke at all. Seems like the colder it is the worse it smokes. The smoke is light gray. I thought it was valve seals so I had a head rebuilt and switched it out a couple weekends ago. Didn't change it at all. I'm going to make a video tomorrow so I can show you guys what it looks like. After it warms up a little it completely stops. Anybody have any ideas?

My dad is a Mazda Master Tech for 30yrs now, and he says its always the bottom end. Put some new rings in it. If they put shitty valve seals on it that may be why. But thats rare. On Mazdas you can take the cross member out then drop the pan. After that you can do the bottom end without even pulling the motor.

could be a cracked head ..if it was bottom end it would be blue smoke and it wouldnt go away

This is what I thought. Maybe as the truck heats up the rings swell and seal up. But I don't understand why the smoke really isn't blue.

I don't think it's the head. The first one I took to the machine shop was cracked. The second one he said was fine. It's a different head than was on the truck before, but the truck does the exact same thing.

Hmm, well mine used to do that, but only in the winter. I had a major tune up done, fixed all the vaccuum leaks. Mine was running rich. I haven't really noticed it smoking in a long while.

Looks like someone overported your block.

I made a short video of my truck running today as soon as I started it up. The colder it is outside the worse it smokes. Sorry the video is short my batteries went dead in my camera. But you should get the idea of what's going on lol.

rings are seized, buy a rering and gasket kit off of ebay they're cheap
