The thread title says it all, and I know the board will be a good resource because at some point in time one of us has owned practically every mini made in the last 15 years. I am looking to buy a used truck in the next few months to use as a utility truck.

I would like you to share your experience and give some recommendations on what to look for in a truck. This will be a farm truck to be used for light hauling from time to time, that I would like to last me the next 6-8 years. Of course I am looking to spend as little as possible, around 2-3K, and get the most for my money. I am going for bed size, hopefully a small 4X4, most likely a v6. I am going with a mid-size over a full-size to save on gas, and because I will really only be doing light hauling and driving around the farm. If you recommend otherwise let me know.

I have personally owned 2 Chevy S10s in the past, one 4cyl ext. cab and one 6cyl reg cab, both were manuals. The 4cyl I bought in 1998, it was a '95, turned out to be a lemon but got good gas mileage and was easy to drive. I hauled around lawn equipment in the bed for several summers. I bought the V6 new in 2000, great truck, very reliable. I've never owned an import though.

Please take a minute to share your experience, give advice, or recommend a truck for my situation.

I would say any Mitsubishi, Toyota or Nissan. Real strong trucks. On a Mitsubishi it just depends on if you like carbs or FI motors. FI motors are 1990-1996 carbed go from 1979-1989. All of these trucks are well know to go well over 200,000 miles.

Thanks that helps.

Nissan or Toyota. Toyota is probably a little better, but an 87 Nissan Hardbody was my first mini, so i am going to have to go with Ed. I dont know of any year that Nissan or Toyota made a bad truck.

I have always been a fan of the Toyota Tacoma body styles, but I don't know much about the truck. Somebody on another forum recommended a Tacoma with a 22re motor for the availability of parts. I will continue my research, any input is appreciated.

I've owned quite a few trucks, and hands down my S10 ran to 226,000 without a hiccup with a 2.8 V6...then I also had a 95 Hardbody that I kick myself everyday for letting go...both were very very good to me.
