ok when it says a motor is bored over what do they mean the block or the head ...what all can be done to the head to ger more performance? ...sorry dont know much about engines

bored over is the block cylinder walls.

The block is what gets bored. The cylinder walls are cut larger, most of the time to take out gouges in the walls and make a perfectly round bore that's at the right angle in relation to the crankshaft. Increasing the size of your cylinders will make your engine displacement larger which in turn will make the engine slightly more powerful.

A lot of power can be made by working the cylinder heads to flow air better then they came from the factory. Porting the intake runners will allow the engine to flow air and fuel through the motor more efficiently.

Think of it this way: An engine is just a really big air pump. Any modification that allows more air and fuel to be pumped through the motor, will make it more powerful.

also...... if u hear the word homing, that means to clean any imperfections in the block as well, sometimes it falls on the guide lines of a bore, just depends on how much is taken off... also, if you BORE the engine, like a 350 that is bored 30 ova, it is done for stroker motors, which give a nice chunk of power that some people dont know till it hits them

so where norm can you take a head to get it made better?

jegs, summit, or if ur still unsure what to do or what parts to go with a local race shop or machine shop should be able to help get you what your after and hopefully give you some advice along the way.

usually ur local machine shop, some places around here have an auto parts store with a machine shop in back.. u can also go to a dealer, and ask them who they take it to, becareful on who u take it too, make sure and ask around about them, machining is something that can be easily messed up and cost u much in the long run....

you can also shave the head down to get more power cause that will raise the compression ratio.
