Soda Blasting

I building a 1953 Chevy right now and the cab is covered in layers of paint and sections of rust. I was going to convert my sand blaster to soda with the kit that Eastwood sells but the video they have says it wont blast rust. Who uses what to blast or remove rust? I've seen the gell you can brush on and the black stuff that turns rust into primer but what works best. I'm looking for any kind of input here.

Hey man I dont like that brush on rust converter stuff. I just dont feel like it gets it all. I would sodablast the areas that you just need paint removed and then sandblast where patch panels are going to be used anyways. If it is just surface rust, I thought soda or walnut media removes that?

There arent any big patch panels needed which is great but I thought soda took off surface rust too. I got some soda from my buddy and I just rubbed it on the rust spot of the truck and it looked like it was eating it away???

Sent tons of stuff to get soda blasted and it always comes back cleaner then skeeters peter, lol. Aircraft stripper works but its nasty and toxic. I've used the stuff that comes in an aerosol can and you spray it on rust and it turns it black I believe. Seemed to work pretty good just make sure that you let it cure for the time they specify on the can.

soda blasting works well but it does nothing to rust...another downside is that ive heard nightmare stories about paint problems down the road due to soda residue that dosent get completely cleaned away...

Ok, first of all, don't even consider soda blasting unless you really really know what you are doing, if not neutralized properly, just plan on the paint not sticking, i won't even consider it in my place, if it's been soda blasted, I don't want to take the chance. i'd have it re-blasted just to remove the residue..

Soda blasting has to be nuetralized with a chemical such as mean green/purple power, and has to be washed, and washed again, you'll need to pressure wash it after you neutralize it also. and be sure not to let any residue dry in any body seam or crevice, or you'll be re-doing that area when it peels..

Yhy dont you just have the media blasting place use plastic or wallnut media.. That gets rid of everything...

makes sense to me,, anything is better than soda.
