Looking at swapping out the 8-Lug suspension to a 5-Lug in order to have a better selection on wheel choices. Can anyone tell give me any tips on a good donor vehicle? I have a buddy offering suspension of a 1989 Sub 1/2 ton. But I am not sure if this will work. I realize it might not be exactly a bolt-on changeover, so if we need to move something to make it work...Its cool.

Thanks

i swapped the suspension on a 79 crew cab c-20 8 lug with parts from a 87 c-10 long bed
and it was compleatly bolt on,just swapped the entire front cradle spindles and all,and the rear end,the only challenge is to find a universal joint that will mate the 2 together but your local parts place should have that, just take both u-joints with you

The engine crossmember is the same. the difference is the balljoints. just swap in some half ton control arms and brakes and be done.

yea i know they are the same, but it was easier just to swap the whole assembly for me

I guess if you dont have an engine in the truck and the front end is jacked up in the air it would be easier. However if someone had a running truck they could swap each side by only jacking up one side at a time.
