Looking for a Toyota rear end I have seen two different kinds. First has the yolk for the connection of the driveshaft centered on the pumpkin and the other is off centered. What is the difference and will they both work the same?

(I hope that made sense to more people then just me.)

It does make sence. They have to be two different rearends (heavy duty vs. light duty mabey) but I don't know the difference.

The 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder third member is offset to the passenger side. The Tundra differential is centered, but it won't fit in a standard Toyota axle housing. The Tundra housing has a larger ring gear cover because they have a bearing truss that goes around the outside of the gears.

The 4 cylinder differential is what you will commonly see and be able to find. The biggest difference between the 4 cylinder and the V6 differential is that the V6 has blockier 3/8" thick ribs where the 4 cylinder ribs are about 3/16" thick.

The 4 cylinder and V6 differentials will swap out from housing to housing for the most part. The only difference you need to look out for is 1/2 ton versus 3/4 ton. The 1/2 ton which is very common has the highest bolt on the differential flange in the 1 O'clock position. The 3/4 ton has the highest bolt at the noon position.

And they are all 4.11 gears.

all yota rears 4.11 or jus those spacific ones, i only ask cause my scab got an 85 rear with 3.73. ? jus curious

All the Toyota Pickup rear axles for 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder are 4.11 gears. The Tacomas and Tundras I am not sure about.

Your Scab is the Isuzu right? So it could have a different ratio since it is not Toyota. So far I have not ran across a Toyota axle that was not packed with 4.11 gears.

seth the auto rearend is 4.73 i believe.

4.73 or 3.73? 4.73 would be ridiculous. I wouldn't know about the auto trucks though. I should look it up in that big book I have.

hey seth, you know anyone that sells new ring n pinion gears? i'm tired of 4.11's.. coupled with a nissan tranny (gearing wise), it blows dick to roll at almost 4g's at 75 or so. (using the common 215/40/17)
