my gas gauge likes boys.

if i fill it up, it reads full, it drops to empty as i use gas but when it hits empty the fucker still runs like a champ for a while. i have NO idea how much gas I have, or have used, until it runs out. and sure I could use the math and figure it out but id rather have a working gauges. Any chance of an easy fix? Does it sound like the sending unit or the gauge itself, because if its the sending unit im gunna punch my mechanic in the face. twice. hard. back to back.

your truck should have a low fuel light to the right 2 blocks up from the bottom of the gauge cluster. it glows orange when you have 1 gallon left.

PS: it sounds like the gauge, these gauges go bad all the time. every square toyota i have ever owned the fuel gauge malfunctioned. my longbed extended cab right now stops at 1/2 tank when going down.

i wouldnt know as my dash lights dont work just the seat belt, oil light, and the speedo/gas background lights work.

use a votameter to check the ohm signal coming from the sending unit.. if it reads out on a meter then you know its your gauge.. If not then you know its your sending unit

what should it read? its different at different levels right?

yeah but if it sends out no signal then you know its not working... get a 5 gal gas can and read it once then put some gas in it and read it again... the numbers will change if its working right.. not sure what they should read at what point though.. sorry

if the gas needle goes up and down the sending unit is working...........right? i mean it may not be a GOOD one, but its working.... i think its my gauge...
