SFBD my 96 Ranger and I need to brace the front frame horns. A local body man who also does frame repair says that after cutting the horns off, weld a plate on to cap the end of the frame, 1/4 thick between them long enough to cap both pieces. Build up the area leading up to the 1/4 plate on the top and bottom. And it would not require a big fish plate on either side of the frame rail. I was wondering what you thought about this.

Thanks

If I am understanding you correctly, that should work fine. 1/4" plate is very overkill, you could easily get away with 1/8" plate with no problems.
