I have a 56 Bel Air that has the filler behind the tail light. It looks as if the same exact set up would be tricky on a newer style tail light. I too am interested in how ppl are doing this. I've seen it (in pics only) on OBS Silverados and Astros.

I would try a stock gas door hinge. Looks like it would swing the light out and away from the bucket as does a suicide door. Might work. Would definately have to be some sort of hinge similar to a suicide door hinge for it not so swing into the vehicle, but out.

I remember seeing a chevy truck in a mag somewhere that used like a civic gas door hinge to do it. Worth a try.

Like said before, just try a gas door hinge and make a few tabs to hold the back of the light. You would probably have to play around with how far back from the light to mount it get the full swing.

i was thinking also a small peice of round stock bent similiar to a lambo hinge then weld a flat plate for the tail light to mount to then also weld two more small plates to the other end drill a hole thru those slide a bolt one size to small thru and mount that to another plate welded inside the trunk or bed.. after that a cabnit roller lock or a magnet or two glued to the back of the tail should cover it..

or even a small electic acuator connected to the tail could slide it in and out,,,
