I'm building a new floor frame for my bed and i want to smooth the sides straight down...ive seen a lot of other trucks do that but i never see any good pics of how they do it exactly as far using any sort of bracing behind that...ive got the floor part under control but im just curious on the sides..oh and the floors is only 6 in deep lol so...thanks in advance!

I wouldn't use any additional bracing...specially since it's only 6 inches deep. Some 16 ga should be plenty strong. Tack it to the bedrail, and to the floor.

im working on mine and am at that same stage, it is also only 6inches deep i i only built a frame for the floor and just used some 16g metal for the sides, even on my old bed it was about 16inches i think i didnt have bracing behind the sides.

its an 87 s10 btw...did you guys weld the sheetmetal flush with the top of the bed rail or to the lip that hangs down on the inside?...im afraid that going to the top of the bed rail will make it hard to keep the rail edge nice and straight after welding and grinding..

patience is your best friend.... do it a tack at a time then grind it down and dont let it heat up too much.

on mine a little overkill. i drilled some holes in the sheet metal where its about 1/2 down the lip of the bed about every 5 inches, then ill go back and fully tack the top and grind it down
