I have a set of webber 38s. Anyone know of a cheap high volume low pressure pump I could use. I have seen some form mallory for like $200 bucks. Is that cheap?

I would go with the holley blue pump and it also comes with the regulator that your going to need. Holley also has a kit to increase the volume of the pumps output. That was the setup that worked the best for me on my 89 toy.

carter makes a nice electric pump for about 75, its 4psi and perfect for the sidedrafts. click the link. The holley is a good one, but I think the springs you get are 3 and 5 psi, correct me if I am wrong.

do NOT use an external pressure regulator. they limit pressure by limiting flow.

are you using the stock fuel pump? do you have the return line hooked up?

If yes to both of those, then no you dont really need a FPR.

the purpose of a FPR on a carb is to keep the pump from overpowering the float, which spills gas into the bores and makes you run really jacked up. A lot of guys buy the most expensive pump they can, I call it overkill engineering, "just in case". But the truth is that something less would suit their needs perfectly. Not saying overkill is bad or good, just sometimes it makes more work in the long run.

you should still be okay. Look at the stock pump, sometimes they have a return line right in them.

you might be sucking the bowl dry but I doubt it, I cant see a stock fuel pump running out of juice, it was designed for 125% of that engines needs. You may actually have too large/small a jet in the carb and are snuffing or leaning out.

the stock pump might be old though. get the carter, its a great pump for webers.

I just clicked the link. This may sound dumb, but is it ok to run a marine pump? And is 6 psi correct for webber carbs.
dssur   +1y
sure, you can run a marine pump, just dont tell it that its not in a boat. The part number is the correct one P4070. You can get a cheaper model that is a car part, but its only 30gph and might be a bit lean for a dual carb setup.

they have 6psi max pressure (actually I think its 5.75), but constant pressure will never be less than 4, and that is the spec you need.
