IMO a few things go into it:
1) what size wheels did your truck come w/2) what size rotors did it come w/3) your driving style - do you jam on the brakes or coast to a stop4) trailer shouldn't matter too much. if you're towing a car trailer, it should have electric brakes to make up for the load.
my truck came w/ 14" rotors & stock 20" wheels & i think i drive my truck easy. going up to a 24" wheel has worked out fine for me. when i do need to replace brakes i will upgrade the pads & possibley slotted rotors.
one other thing, check the manufacturers load rating of the tires you intend to buy, remember the less sidewall the less load the handle.
