sounds like a fuel problem

my fuel gauge shows 1/2 tank, i just fueled up like 2 days ago

Could be a couple things:

1. Check your fuel pump to make sure it turns on with the key first.

2. I've had a similar problem when my Idle Air Control motor went out. They are very tempermental on Dakotas, if it gets any water to it at all it will mess up.

3. Also could be the coil and or harness from the computer to the coil. I had to replace the harness on mine because the wires broke inside. It would run fine, then just quit in traffic on me.

4. Dakotas are know to have corrosion at the wires behind the relay/fuse box under the hood. Pull it off and look under neath to make sure the wires aren't all ate up. Should be one of the thicker red wires for ignition.

Check those out and give us an update.

sounds like fuel pump to me.....take a hammer or blunt object and tap on the bottom of the gas tank, a few times, dont beat it to death, but give it a few decent taps....then try to start it up...if she starts, could be good possiblity your pump died.

Yeah, if you drove in the rain I'd almost bet it's either the IAC or a corroded wire at the fuse box. Do you have the factory air cleaner or an aftermarket intake?

You should check for corroded wires even if you fix your problem...i had some around the distributor and it was a fun time figuring it out. Good luck.
