Quick, over asked question. I need help though and can't find the answer anywhere. I'm getting ready to bag my truck - 1987 CC Chevy Dually - it currently has 245/75/16 all the way around. Are those tires to tall to lay frame? If so, which tire size would be an adequate size for a truck tire? 227/75/16?? Not really looking to run anything bigger per se in the future (at the moment). Next year, I'd like to bodydrop it to the lay rockers but that'll probably be about it.

Can someone please help me.

Thank you for your time!

Back in the day when everybody ran 16's on duallys the popular size was 225/60/16 as I remember. 225/75/16 or 215/85/16 was stock on my 2000 dually. The 215/85/16 is the same diameter as my 255/30/24's so if you did set it up to lay on those or a 225/75/16 you would be all set to upgrade to 22's or 24's in the future. To be honest though, if you are going to stick to 16's I wouldn't go through the hassle to lay out on that big of tire. Before I was body dropped I ran a 215/70/16 which was a bit smaller than stock but still was a suv/light truck tire as opposed to the the 225/60/16's. They were not load rated as c, d, or e, but still held some weight.

Just depends on the look you are going for, do you like small tires on small wheels or big tires on small wheels, or small tires on big wheels.

I can't say for sure what size tire will allow you to lay frame on that body style dually but I am sure someone will chime in.

That's for the input. Just didn't want to spend money on the wrong tires. I may try the 225/75/16 to get it to lay. I was also concerned about premature tire wear.
I looked everywhere I could find to get the answer and found several bagged and bodied dually but never saw the tire sizes.

Thank you again

I have an 84 crewcab bagged not body dropped but I couldn't fit a 225/75 16 it hit my blower motor when I would try to lay out my truck currently has 215/75 on it Which is a car tire but they do offer a load range d in this size which is 8 ply for suvs and would suffice. For the weight. And with these tires I don't have any clearance problems and out Lay out. My buddy has a 94 bagged and bodied he runs 225/60 16 but that is not available as load range d. Don't know if any of that helps

I am running the 225/75-16 on my 88 squarebody crewcab. Bagged and stock floor body dropped. Have to do away with blower box and get a under dash unit. As previously stated this tire will set you up for a semi wheel upgrade later down the road.

Krewzlo did a good job on the sizes he listed. I chose the 225/75-16 as they are 29.28 inches in diameter and the 22's I will upgrade to later are 29.30 so I shouldn't have any prob with the swap. I believe the 215/85-16 will be too tall as they are 30.38 inches. The 215/70-16 is 27.85 inches which will give you a little more room but if you are going to body drop next year you will still have to lose the blower box even with the smaller tire.

My suggestion since you talking about bodydropping next year anyways would be to get the 225/70-16 and buy tires once. You can also get this size in the Firestone Transforce which are a E load range so weight will never be a problem. Also if you were wondering with the 225/70-16 on this body being bodydropped I have almost 1/2 a inch between the tire and firewall so I barely made it but I did not have to tub the firewall.

Awesome!! Are the firestones a good tire? Do you know how much they run and if I would have any difficulties getting them mounted?

Thanks for the help

The Firestone Transforce is a awesome tire. I used to be a mechanic at Firestone but I am not being biased. I have ran BF Goodrich Commercial T/A tires as well as a few others. I started running the Firestones before I went to work there. I like the way they ride better and I think they wear better than the others. Find you a good salesman at Firestone and you can usually get them around $140 a piece. I have had great luck with these tires. I am fixing to get another set for my dually and I currently have 6 of them on our 38 foot fifth wheel travel trailer. We just beat the hell out of that trailer and the tires pulling it through Palo Duro Canyon in Amarillo, Tx and had no problems at all with them. They are very easy tires to mount as well.

Sweet!! Ill see what I can find. The reason I asked about mounting is because Hibdon tires and Walmart both said they would only mount what was on the doorjam or tires only rated for that vehicle. That was on my previous dually. Trying to do more research to avoid those run ins. Did you do your bodydrop yourself?

Yes I did my bodydrop myself. I am fortunate enough to have my own personal shop and am very versatile. Every inch of my is being done by myself include all the paint and bodywork. Anything you need just ask. If you need some good hi res pics I have plenty I can send.

That be sweet. Im all about images man. Hook me up. Whatever you want to share. Id like to see front and rear setup and bodydrop. Would you mind sending them to

I really appreciate, thank you for taking time to help me out!!
