That '88 burb has the old vacuum style setup as used on all the squarebody trucks. Fuckifino how to work on 'em.

A real common issue on the later style with the electric motor cruise servo thingy is the brake switch goes bad. Multiple contacts inside the switch, and the switches are pretty cheaply made; you can still have working brake lights but have nonfunctional cruise because that set of contacts has gone bad. They are little leaf switches and they break off and fall over...stuck on = thinks you're stepping on brake, disables cruise (AND torque converter lockup!)

Hmm. Okay.

I'll start there.

I figured it out. The linkage between the cc diaphragm and the throttle body had come off somehow.

Smarter or dumber than the guy that didn't just look under the hood first to find the linkage fell off...hope you stuck it on there with something better than a bread twist-tie.

LOL. You know what was weird about it? The little metal bracket on the diaphragm 'broke'. Like, the linkage wore through it, or something.

Odd.

Oh! Well in that case...

I suggest bubble gum.
