First off, if your going to get into sound quality competition, and haven't done it yet, I'm gonna let you know it takes more money to get clear than it does to get loud.
Second, JL Audio yes they do make a good set-up, but at loud volume they're hard to tune and get clarity, but they are loud. Kicker- hasn't iun my opinion been a good product since they decided to down grade and join MTX in the Circuit City world.
If you want to get into SQ and have a chance of winning, look into Image Dynamics and buy a set of their CD1 Horns, I think they have like 3 or 4 different types, not cheap but worth every penny in quality. Then there is an amp to push those, look into a Soundstream D60 II, it's an old school 2 channel, that's on;y about 40 watts. You don't need a lot to push horns.
Then you'll need a mid bass driver, you can run maybe a pair of 6.5, 7, or even small 8 inch subs, in the kick panels or floor. Then you need to buy one amp for each of those maybe something of 50 to 100 watts, you don't need an overzealous mid the horns take care of a majority but there is still a little to work out.
Now you are on a sub set-up. I personally have an ARC AUDIO 15D4 in my car that is plenty loud and just as clear as some mid series 10's or 12's. It needs a large box but sometimes that happens. But I would recommend running an Arc audio sub over a lot of others, because you get quality, a warranty, and great costumer service.
