Is there any advantage running a cantilever

Youre missing a letter, its 'cantilever'. And yes, the advantage is you get to multiply the amount of stroke a bag has (more lift) and at the same time you decrease the spring rate of the bag (better ride).

You don't really think of a cantilever as being an advantage or disadvantage, but more like a tool to help you achieve a desired outcome when room is tight. In this pic of the Chevelle front suspension, the upper A-arm and the exhaust make it nearly impossible to get a quality coil over to fit where I would typically want to mount it, so I built a cantilever (or bell-crank in this case) to actuate the coil over with the leverage that I wanted.
