I'm trying to figure out a way to get my motor how I want it, without spending a load. I am going to do the valve cover and oil pan in navy blue with gold flake and want the motor to match. Should I just find a gold engine enamel in a can, or is there a GOOD quality spray can that will stick and not cause problems later on??

base/clear will be fine, aslong as its prepped right.

the prep is what im worried about as the engine guy doesn't "paint" and i dont have money for paint. i decided to just let someone else take care of doing all the motor work so i just was hoping someone knew of a good paint that could be sprayed from a can. maybe a gloss gold or something?

Yep, duplicolor has awesome engine paint. Used it on several motors and never had problems with it. I just wash with a good degreaser and paint it. Gas, oil, heat doesn't seem to affect it at all.

ya the duplicolor works good. use some adhesion promotor and clean it up good and you will be ok

Por15 makes engine paint and a prep kit. I plan to give it a shot when it comes time to paint my engine. More money than store bought but por15 has good products so I think it would be worth it.

i just need a true gold. any idea what it would cost to have the engine done with actual base/clear? I mean water pump and block and head. disassembled or assembled.

grabber green!!

shouldnt be more then a couple hundred bucks. the por 15 might be a cheaper alternative as it chemically bonds to the metal, then you can paint whatever the hell u want on top of it.
