any of you yota guru's know what year the automatic tranny's switched to electronic...if they did at all( i know zero bout em). i know a thing or 2 bout chevy auto's and i know certain years are t.v. cable operated and others are elecetronic.

i have a carb'd 22r with a 5spd, im buildin my wife's truck (luv) and puttin this drivetrain in it... well she wants an auto. i need to know what years to look for a donor from.

i don't believe 22r trannies ever came electric if you're talking about the speedo. i don't think they started that until the tacoma. one thing to beware of though is that a 22r with an automatic is about as gutless as they come. i had a buddy trade one in & we got a kick out of his trade-in sheet where it said

"SEVERELY underpowered...couldn't get out of it's own way."

i'd suggest just teaching her how to drive a stick.

1993/1994 is when they switched to electric speedos.. 1986 would be around the time that yotas first started seeing electronic shit in their trannies. Specifically the 4wd models. The 1988/1995 A340H transfer case was electonically controlled but that is a 4 speed tranny only found on 3VZE motors (V6). So in other words you should not have a problem with your 22r auto tranny. Beings its 2WD you shouldnt run into any issues. Just stay away from the L50 tranny because they had some type of bearing issues.

sorry i shoulda been more clear, i mean speedo and converter ( if they use a lockup or to shift it)yeah i figured it would hurt the power on it. it has a weber and will have a header on it to help some. the truck wont be driven much, cruisin's and round show's.

i have thought about teaching her, just tryin to build it the way she wants it (well sorta )

oh and this will be 2wd stuff
