I recently acquired a 96 dakota and it has a reversed 4 link. I want to know what I can do if anything to stop the side to side movement of the axel without having to re-do the rear setup, I have read the reversed 4 link threads but I haven't seen anything about side to side rear end travel and mine really moves! I have a few ideas but nothing on paper to show. I have used panhard bars before on other setups but they tend to pull the rearend to one side at full lift and I really dont want that as it rubs already. I was thinking about maybe cantilevering something off of both sides of the notch that could move up and down with the suspension travel but not allow it to move side to side but I am having a hard time envisioning the part I want to make any help is appreciated.
reverse 4-links don't have lateral movement issues, poorly triangulated 4-links have lateral movement issues. You might be able to simply replace the bushings for now, but it's hard to say without seeing how it is all setup.
I have watched the rearend and the pinion angle looks good through the spectrum and the bags are on the bars, but it is an old retarded reverse 4 link so I guess I will check the bushings in the mean time and see if that helps cause it has more movement than I am willing to accept. I might still do something crazy to brace it! I have only had the truck for a few days so I haven't been able to go through it thoroughly so thanks for the starting point.
if you are going to go to the trouble of building a device to stop side to side travel why not just move the 4 link forward, moving the gas tank only costs the price of some fuel line.
