Hmmm... I think that some axle information is in need here...

An axle is essentially a torsion bar. It needs to handle torsional stresses in both directions for many, many cycles. So how many of you would try to cut and weld up a torsion bar in order to lower or lift your truck?

None?

I didn't think so.

Any shop that is willing to charge you to shorten or lengthen your axles by cutting and welding them should not be in business. RCVperformance.com built me properly engineered, one-off, 4340 chromoly, heat-treated axles for the supercharged LS6 powered Chevelle in my profile for less than $300 dollars a few years ago. Just last year they sold me two COMPLETE half-shafts with German 934 CVs and boots for less than $1000 for the pair (for any one who doesn't know what a 934 CV is, it's about the best CV there is)

TOWNLOW I dont remeber the exact amount I shortened it, I havnt worked on it for 7 months :\ its def in the 2-3" range for each side because its under an s10 and the mark viii was way too wide. I threw out the entire rear suspension tho and built new arms that have pivots much closer to the center section to keep the CV from plunging into the diff too much. I get right at 10" of usable stroke at the wheel with my mods.

I talked to RCV Performance and they could supply axles for me, either shorter or longer than stock for $185 a piece. If you want to ship them your stock length ones, they will swap out the axles, inspect and grease, and install new boots for an additional $30 a side. 100% lifetime waranty on parts. AWESOME PRICES. Thanks MAX. Guess I learned my 2ND lesson.!!!!
