Hmmm... I think that some axle information is in need here...
An axle is essentially a torsion bar. It needs to handle torsional stresses in both directions for many, many cycles. So how many of you would try to cut and weld up a torsion bar in order to lower or lift your truck?
None?
I didn't think so.
Any shop that is willing to charge you to shorten or lengthen your axles by cutting and welding them should not be in business. RCVperformance.com built me properly engineered, one-off, 4340 chromoly, heat-treated axles for the supercharged LS6 powered Chevelle in my profile for less than $300 dollars a few years ago. Just last year they sold me two COMPLETE half-shafts with German 934 CVs and boots for less than $1000 for the pair (for any one who doesn't know what a 934 CV is, it's about the best CV there is)
