Wondering if anyone has pics of tow trucks? would like to see square chevys but anything is fine.

My tow truck is a 1996 Ford FSD 7.3L 5 speed reg cab with a Vulcan 881 wrecker over a mill on the odometer.

Bad motherfucker #1 my '94 3500HD converted to '96 7.4 / NV4500, first with a hacked-up Sneeker hung on to it...

And after it got a Dynamic 701

The '95 3500HD on the hook, a little too much weight but still hauled it fine...

...a '95 3500HD 7.4 / NV4500 that was an ex-wrecker and didn't quite get around to being one again...

a beat-to-shit '98 C3500 crew 7.4 /4L80E that I bought mainly to pull the Sneeker from.

they all look great! the last one are those 19.5's on it?

Yep, Frito van 8 lug direct bolt 19.5's on the green POS. Factory center caps, and Ricksons trim rings, which aren't worth 10 cents.

I would love to find a set for my project. also i was reading that your black 3500HD struggled to tow the other 3500HD why was that? I have towed an ambulance,a 03 ford F450 tow truck 18 foot E450 box truck and never had any issues. all with the 96 FSD pictured above

I think you probably have a pretty good weight advantage with the 7.3 PSD up front vs. a 7.4 big block, but I could be wrong. Anyway it didn't struggle with the load, it just popped the front end up more than I prefer. It actually pulled it like nothing was back there. Truck is sitting on factory spring pack with uncountable miles on it (original odometer showed just over 100K but truck was beat far worse than that) and wouldn't be surprised if it had been frequently overloaded in its past life as a construction company flatbed.

Also, big difference in wrecker units. Selfloaders are almost always at a disadvantage with weight transfer vs. a conventional. I'm a big fan of the Vulcan Intruder over the Dynamic, never been a Dynamic lover but it's the bed that was on the truck. I'll also go on record saying the OLDER Intruder 810 has better weight transfer characteristics than the revised 810 that came out around 2009 with the positive tilt and boom fold/height sensor setup. The boom looks similar but has been changed significantly and I'll say it doesn't hold a load as well; I drive one every night.

Haven't used the new 812 so dunno what it's like.

Those Frito 19.5's are around since so many older step vans on that chassis are getting scrapped out. You can find them on eBay but lose your ass on shipping most likely. Bunches of them in boneyards if you can find the ones that deal with that type of chassis. Of course you can buy 'em brand new from Ricksons and pay a bundle...
