What size needle are you using first off. I usually had the fan about 1 to 1/2 a turn from fully open with paint flow about half way out and air pressure a higher than recommended at 50-60 psi. I was also sprayin up to 40' vehicles as well. But in that ball park should get you where you need to be.

40 ft vehicles, sounds like my job spraying busses. 1.4 will work i seem to have better luck with a 1.3 getting the shit to flow. also i have recently been over reducing the paint (DCC) about 10% and it seems to help. pressure on my gti is usually around 30 or 35. the gun you are using and the tip will make a difference in what pressures you are using. when i used the 1.4 i turn it up a little. i would just set it up spraying onto a piece of paper taped to the wall and see what you need to adjust before you start spraying the truck.

oh yea, the fan on mine stays wide open unless i'm burning in spot repairs.
