would you trust a welding shop...

if you know the ideas and all behind setting up a 4 link, and don't trust yourself to weld it fully by yourself......would you trust a welding shop to do the welding?

I ask this because I have heard a lot of people say "dont trust a welder with a car and a welder"" mostly joking, but I have seen pictures to back the serious claims. If it's a good welding shop, I see no problems.........you?

If they will listen to you and your able to be there to show them where you want things then yes, but most welding shops i know of wont allow people in the shop.

The ones around here (that I have called) said that if I tack everything in place they would be more than happy to final weld everything. But as for how it acts driving, that's not their problem (obviously). He told me it would only be roughly 3 hours worth of work if everything is tacked together, and at 50 an hour, thats a helluva lot cheaper than having a minitruck shop do it when all I lack is welding skills.

i had a welder help us this past weekend do my buddys truck he used a stick machine because thats all we had and the welds came out badass

Most minitruck shops u speak of work for 15-40 bux an hour not many get more than that i dont understand how u make that claim. U arent just paying for the time of actual welding when u pay said shop u are paying for it to be properly set up, all the cleanup that has to be done before any welding can begin, as well as the time fabbing brackets etc.....

I meant instead of having someone set it all up and stuff, I can do that, clean up, set it all up and just have someone weld it. I know you get a lot more than just welding when a shop takes in the whole project. I want to do most of the work myself but I'm not confident in my welding, and really don't trust people welding on my truck if they aren't "professional" or whatever you want to call it. I don't mind people helping me build shit and all but when it comes to what I ride on, i'd like it to be safe. I may have a mini shop do it, but I may not. Im looking into all my options.

If I set it up, clean everything and get it where he can just jump in and start welding, it may be a better option, it might not. Just wanted thoughts and opinions on if you would trust someone doing heavy machinery to do up a minitruck, I don't have a clue how the work compares, if it does. I realize more than just welding goes into the job, thats just the part im not confident in doing myself.

I really dont see how you could do it anyways. You are constantly bouncing back and forth from set up, tacking, final welding etc of all the various components. Plus some things require internal welding (notch side plates etc). Not all welders are fabricators. I wouldnt even consider it as an option.

well i work in a fab/welding shop. we allow customers in the shop. we do anything and everything thats made of metal, from stainless tables to roll cages in porsches. we also charge 80 bucks an hour. i dont think that we could allow you to stand there and help. you would have to draw it all out and explain then we would do the work. i would find a guy whom is a welder by trade and see if he will do it on the side, you know at your place is possible.
