why exactly do you want to do that? thats a death wish if you wanna do it yourself and don't know how. by your post i'd say that you've never done it before...........don't try to. at the very least you would have to purge it with argon. it's not a matter of just draining it 20 times. why not just raise it, or move it?

A death Wish? Obviously you dont know what you talking about. There are plenty of safe ways to do it. I just want to know how much of the tank will need to be sectioned to get it up in the frame rails. And also some info about the sending unit inside. Was wondering if there had been anybody else on the forum with an 97-03 F150 that had done there tank. I remember seeing some people a couple of years ago on here that had done it.

mines not sectioned but i did have mine cut on one corner and patched with new sheetmetal for my fourlink bar to pass without hitting it

i also said if you didn't know what your doing. have a professional do it....someone who does it regularly.

Try taking a used gas tank to a welding shop to have it welded on. I doubt many will do it. Thats one thing I won't do, and I know a lot of weldors that won't touch a tank once its had gas in it.

far too many things have been said on the welding forum i frequent about pressure tanks, vessel tanks, and gas tanks for me to even think about someone without the knowledge to weld on any of the 3.

i didn't mean to bash you, but if your asking questions on how to do it, you probably shouldn't try it. its one thing to weld a frame together and hope for the best, but you dont have time to hope for the best if something goes wrong welding a gas tank.

Grant it looks like hes asking more about how much it needs to be sectioned, and how to address the float and fuel pickup.

If he's comfortable welding on a gas tank let him. I have a phobia of them blowing up and me bleeding to death from shrapnel wounds. Lol.
