Im in the middle of doing my suspension and i have an old keg layin around and thought about using it as a gas tank, and i have a few questions. Is it worth doing, how did u clean it out, and where did u get your lines from? Thanks
sure its worth doing, hot water would probably work fine, rinse it out a few times and let it dry, and you could just get fuel lines from Summit Racing, either steel braided or rubber and the fittings.
there is a chemical out there for that type thing and its not all that expensive and it coats the inside of the tank its called RED-KOTE you can get it at any oreilly auto parts store
check out por15.com they make a gas tank sealent and a cleaner, i used it when i had built a steel gas tank and u pour the cleaner in there and its an acid that cleans everything and u pour the sealer and swish it around and then pour it back out and it coats the inside real good. my tank is 2 years old and havent rusted one bit.
The keg shouldn't need to be coated because they are designed to hold a lot of pressure and they are also stainless steel so they won't rust. Running lines will be tricky and so will a filler neck unless you are used to working with stainless. You will need to come up with something solid to mount the tank because stainless is finicky about stress.
^ exactly if you do end up doing so make sure who ever welds has welded stainless before because it can walk on you real easy.
We got a "Pabst" KEG were gonna do in my buddys van. Havent figured out a location yet.
