Is the only difference between the frames on long and short 84-88 yotas going to be from the cab wall back?

Also, 84-88 chassis didn't change at all, correct?

Just trying to learn a little in case i'm asked the question later.

Shorty has a one part driveshaft. longbed has a carrier bearing. the crossmember is about the back of the cab. and the gas tanks are smaller on the shorties. they should be real similar.

you asked 2 different q's that didn't make sence together...

#1: Is the only difference between the frames on long and short 84-88 yotas going to be from the cab wall back?

yes...my 88 was the short bed jap style & it was only shorter from about mid cab back. that's why when i went with the american 4x4 longbed, i had to graft in a stock longbed carrier bearing crossmember & use the 2 piece driveline (not to mention an 8" hand made frame extension). also the exhaust hangars & brake/fuel line brackets were in different locations (not a prob for a mini-trucker)...

#2: Also, 84-88 chassis didn't change at all, correct?

i think i answered that in the above reply, but if you meant the front clip...(firewall forward)...you're right.

i hope this didn't sound cocky, cause i didn't mean it that way, but if you have any more questions, feel free to ask...

i meant between short bed models, they didnt change. and then seperately, between long bed models they didnt change. each configuration having their own frame, yet each didn't change between those years. Obviously, long bed vs. short bed theres going to be changes, and same with excab editions.

more so, i was wondering about the rails themselves changing which i think i got a roudn about answer, only crossmembers changed, and of course the axle placement changed.

i guess i'm still kind of lost on your question.

toyota came out with 4 frames for those years that you'll be concerned with...

standard cab - shortbed
standard cab - longbed
xtra cab - shortbed
xtra cab - longbed

they had a few more for the dually/uhaul/flatbed/4 door models, but we won't get into those...

if i'm getting your question right, then yes, an 84 std cab sb frame will be the same as an 88 std cab sb frame. each frame was the same for all the years between 84-88

only minor bracketry & stuff changed, but nothing to be concerned with

hope that helped...

now that that is known, the second half would be where do the long bed changes happen. outside of the carrier bearing crossmember, nothing change under the cab, correct?
corey0814   +1y
ya it starts right where the carrier bearing x member is. that's right under the cab near the rearmost portion. the body mounts on the outside of the frame stay the same. here's some pics i have. they aren't very good, but it will give you an idea anyway...

damn. i wish my carrier crossmember was like that. mine goes under it and hangs way low. but its a 78 longbed.

its the stock one off a stock 88 2wd std cab longbed...
