on an unequal length control arm suspension can you drop the rack and pinion and drop the mounting point to the spindle the same distance and not end up with bad toe or bump steer issues?

I've done plenty of research before about suspensions but not positive on this question. What's kind of confusing me right now is that the vehicle has a manual steering box and the tie rod pivot points are not within the "theoretical" line of the upper and lower control arm mounts, and the mount on the spindle is not offset accordingly. The tie rod pivots are approximately 2" behind the theoretical line and the spindle pivots are all in line with each other. Honestly I'm half confused how it doesn't even have problems factory.

The factory does all sorts of funny stuff to make the vehicle stable or even induce an understeer situation within a limited amount of travel. It sounds to me that you are probably working on an S-10. They have some interesting geometry going on. But to answer your question... No. You can't simply move the inner mounts down 1" and move the outer mounts the same 1". In theory you would need to move the mount the same percentage as each other.

Let's assume that the the inner, upper and lower A-arm mounts are 10" apart and the outer mounts (the ball joints) are 12" apart. If you were to move the inner mount down 1" or 10% then the outer mount would need to move down 10% or 1.2" down.

Does that make sense?

yeah, I see what your saying. so if we follow the percentage rule we shouldn't have any major adverse effects?

In thoery the tierod length should also be longer by a percentage of the arm lenth and how much you moved it as well, but as long as the steering wasn't moved too much then you should be ok.

I think we are only moving the rack and pinion down 1 to 1.5" lower than where the RB steering was
