Hey guys, I was wondering how to crop in rims and add tires and tire tread on my rides. I just can't seem to get it right and it looks like ass. Screen shots would be nice if you have the time, I'm starting to think that I can't use the PLACE command, that it has to be something different. I also don't know how to manipulate an image of a rim off of a website to get it to look right on the vehicle, camber, etc. Also, if you HAVE tint and want it to be solid clear glass, how do you do that. I can go to the hue tool to tint, but UN-tinting is a biotch. Thanks ya'll

use the poly lasso tool to trace around the rim with a .1 feather

I think I've learned the importance of layering now.........

thanks for the reply man, trying to learn on your own in spare time is a bitch.

I'd still appreciate some insight into the other problem if anyone can share.

you got a pen and paper? lol! I believe that I know how to effectively use layers. I know how to create a background pattern but not a border. I would like to take the cholo tint off my pathfinder and fishbowl it (100 % clear glass). I don't know how to import in anything that didn't come on the vehicle itself. Like a different bumper, motorcycle mirrors, etc..

My techniques thus far have been a little shitty since I've been trying to do everything in 2 layers (background and "layer 0").

I know you pro's make money on this and I've hit up a few (Brandt and Robbie, thanks for your replies) but I really want to learn. I have photoshop CS3 and I'd like to use it. I won't be stealing business from anyone or advertising once I can do one, I just would rather do it on my own in case I change paint schemes, rims, etc.

Bottom line, I need someone who's willing to teach me and know that I won't take their source of income away.

I like the truck in your profile FarBeyondDriven, if you can teach me how to do that I'll owe you a ton and will try to compensate you for it somehow. I just want to learn though, THAT'S more important than having one done for me. I need help shaving, importing objects (rims, swap parts, etc), using the lasso, history brush, using half of the other tools, creating borders, and creating objects (like a steering wheel when you look in the interior from the outside for example.)

e-mail me at Kevingentry2@gmail.com if you think you can. If not, like I always say, I understand.

Best way to learn is trial and error. Theres usually quite a few ways to accomplish a certain task. And to be honest you wont be making anything near Matt's (FarBeyondDriven) level for a long time especially if youre only doing it in your free time. Takes a ton of practice.

My advice is to look up some tutorials and apply those techniques to other things. A good tutorial site to check out is the PHOTOSHOP BIBLE.

thank you for the link, I'll hit it up tonight.

And I know this takes time, all software does, and i'm not even saying I have to be as good as he is, I just want to get a glimpse into what I'm building

honestly its probably gonna take you a few months until your at the level to be able to do something like clear windows.. you have to brush the entire interior usually or find good images of the stock interior from similar angles if your lucky

lol i could never charge somebody for opening them up to the world of art man
i can point you in the right direction.. theres litterally 100 different ways to do everything.. but it will only take you as far as your imagination and skills will let it.

i suggest you just meep around the internet and find some tutorials.. but dont get hooked on them and dont think thats the only way to do it.. because its a DEFINATE MUST that you develop your own style .. it takes some commitment and patience .. lots of patience .. go buy photoshop classroom in a book.. its like 50$ and its a big book with a disk with psd's for the lessons.. if u just breeze through the lessons you will learn SO much if your just starting out.. i took a few photoshop/graphic design classes in highschool and what i learned from robbie in about 6 months was more than all 3 years of school.. so that goes to show how much that guy knows ...

im down to help hit me up on aim!

and thanks on the truck comment.. that was the rendering i did for it before it got totaled .. now that front end conversion is pretty popular.. at the time there was only a 2 door tahoe of the same year with the front end conversion
