Been visiting site for a while now there is tons of knowledge here so I need some help.
I have an 82 c30 runs great and drives well upto about 40mph then it gets this DEATH SHAKE
Put better tires on all the way around didnt seem to help, checked drive shaft seems to be good
carrier bearing seems ok but not sure how much give it should have also noticed one of sway bar brackets
to the frame has been bent were someone towed it.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated
Thanks Mike

If you have aftermarket wheels, make sure they are the correct wheels. I have alcoas for an older ford and the hubs were about 1/4" too big.. made for a hell of a vibration. put your truck on jack stands and run it through the gears and watch the rear wheels. if they are wrong you will see them bouncing up and down.

I will try that but I am running what i think are factory are 16" eagle alloys as in my avatar.

plus the rims center on hub and lugs really well the lugs have about a half inch that actually goes into the aluminum outer wheel.

Welcome to the board from Fla. You will find the people on here to be very helpful. I had a similar issue on my truck. I know you said you checked your drive shaft, but did you check your u joints? Check out this thread:

i second that i would pull the driveshaft and actually feel the joints one could seem ok but might really be bound up.....good luck

Check your front tie rod ends too....they are most likely the original 82s and could be a contributing issue

What do you mean by death shake? Do you mean death wobble. The steering wheel wants to come out of your hands and lots of shaking in the whole truck? that could be a out of balance front tire. It was when it happened to me. If i hit the smallest bump the whole truck would shake violently. Rotated the tires and it was fixed. Something front end related should feel very different from drive shaft related.

This seems like front end I just changed tires but I didnt balance them yet but I had this before also one thing I noticed is that some idiot used one of the sway bar mounts as a place to pull with its on the driver side were the bushing attaches to frame bent all to heck but I wouldnt think it would cause this am I wrong
