5.3 engine tick sound!!!

i got an 02 avalanche it has always been run on 5w30 synthetic motor oil n i noticed a really faint ticking sound like it might be the valves...i was wondering if there would be any problems switching back to conventional oil to see if that fixes my problem...any suggestions? i heard the slight ticking is common on the 5.3

its carbon build up. when i worked at the dealership we saw this all the time. We took a can of top engine cleaner and sucked it up through the PCV vacuum hose. One person would rev the engine until all of the can was empty. Then let the truck idle until it dies. Let it sit for 5-6hrs and go out and crank it up. Its gonna have a hard time runnin and its gonna smoke its ass of for a few minutes, just keep givin it gas. I would say that 9 out of 10 times this fixed the problem.

i did that with seafoam. huuuuge fan and believer now. my tick was horrible and my truck wouldnt even stay running.
