Tacoma. 4cyl vs 6cyl

Ok so back before I actually bought my truck I was lookin for a v6 w/5 spd tranny. Couldn't find a descent one so I bought a 2.4L/5 spd. Several years later and a little research I actually think going with the 4cylinder was an overall better decision. The v6 has a little more power but the 2rz(4cyl) has a better reputation as well as many cost efficient power upgrades. So I'm just wondering what other people think about the 4cyl tacomas compared to the v6's???

2RZ and 3RZ > 5VZ

one main reason, the 4cyls can make loads of power when turbo'd the V6 aint very good at makin power. a bone stock 2RZ can make over 300whp with a turbo and all the right goodies, a bone stock 3RZ can make over 350whp with the right parts, and STILL get over 25mpg.



thats right, the picture above is of a built 3RZ and puts out almost 400whp @ 14psi.

Thanks 4 your input (badass03taco). Your truck is hella clean! Wasn't real big into performance till I checked out some taco's on youtube and realized there potential. Badass fuel cell too. If I had the money I would of bought it. Just what I'm lookin for.

i am flexible on the price. how much you willing to spend?

I've had both. my V6 ran a 15.2 in the 1/4 mile with just an intake and exhaust. the 4cyl. wont do anything without a turbo. I had the TRD S/C on my 4cyl and still couldn't get it to run under 16 in the 1/4. possibly with some better fuel upgrades my 4 cyl would have done better. both are in my profile. since you already have the 4 cyl. you might as well put a turbo on it.

i know the 3.4 in my 4runner crapped a dumb head gasket, which now i know they are known for that. dang it!

Yup, turbo 4 banger is the way to go. There's a lot of us out there now so you'll have plenty of help along the way if you go for it. Best thing I've done to the taco... so far...

Damn Evan(modtaco) thats a badass lookin engine. I'm more into show than go but after lookin at some taco's on youtube and CustomTacos.com I'm really getting into the performance side also. Maybe I'll be the first doored/big bodydropped taco to run in the 10's.(Of course with a fully chromed out motor). maybe go all-out and run a 2jz turbo supra motor. I love my 4 banger, my truck has 170,000 miles and it runs great, I'd like to get some more info on the turbo set-ups you guys are runnin. So if anyone has some info please hit me up.
